Privacy Policy

1. Summary

Narrative Compass is a media-literacy tool. It does not require an account, does not ask you for personal information, and does not sell data.

2. Information we process

  • Browsing choices: whether you accepted or declined the cookie notice, stored in your browser's local storage under the key nc_cookie_consent.
  • Server requests: when the data is refreshed on schedule (8:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM Eastern), our server fetches public RSS feeds, public Reddit listings, and the Internet Archive. Standard request data (such as IP address and user agent) is visible to our hosting provider and to those services as part of normal web requests.
  • AI requests: article text and headlines from public sources may be sent to a third-party AI model (Google Gemini) to generate analysis. We do not send personal information about visitors.

3. Cookies and local storage

We use only essential local storage to remember your cookie choice. If you accept, anonymous analytics may be loaded. You can clear this at any time by deleting site data in your browser, after which the notice will appear again.

4. Third-party services

  • Google Gemini (AI analysis of public article text)
  • Google Trends and Reddit (public attention signals)
  • Internet Archive (retrieval of archived public pages)
  • Rocket platform scripts loaded on this site

Each provider applies its own privacy policy to requests it receives.

5. Retention

Narrative Compass does not maintain user profiles. Scan results are held in memory or cache for the duration needed to display them and are not linked to individuals.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, and to object to processing. Because we do not hold account data, most requests can be satisfied by clearing your browser storage. For other questions, contact the site operator through the channel listed on the project's home page.

7. Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.

8. Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date above will reflect the latest revision.
